Legal terms, Phrases and Maxims are usually precise shorter words or sentences which can provide larger meanings. Some of the words mentioned in different places denotes entirely different meanings.

• Ejectment- A legal action by which a person wrongfully ejected from property seeks to recover possession and damages.
• Election- the process of selecting a person to occupy a position or office.
• E-mail - A communication exchanged between people by computer through internet.
• Emancipation- act by which one who was under another’s power and control is freed
• Embezzlement- offence committed when a servant wrongfully appropriates the master's property for his own use
• Emblem- A flag armorial bearing or other symbol of a country.
• Emergency- Constitution of India envisages three types of emergency i.e. arising from threat to security of India, failure of constitutional machinery in a state and financial emergency.
• Enactment - act of parliament.
• Encroach- to gain or intrude unlawfully upon another’s lands, property or authority.
• Encumbrance- a liability on property, for example, a mortgage.
• Endorsement- a writing on the back of a documents and includes endorsement in negotiable instrument and also writhing in evidence of payment of any amount or portion of amount due on a documents.
• Enticement - Act or an instance of wrongfully soliciting or luring a person to do something.
• Entitle - Authority of legal right.
• Estoppel - A rule of evidence preventing a person from denying truth of statement which he had made previously, and by which he has led another to believe and to act upon.
• Evidence - A document, a statement either oral or written or any other thing which the Court by law is permitted to take into consideration for making clear or ascertaining the truth of the fact or point in issue.
• Exculpatory - Clearing or tending to clear from alleged fault or guilt.
• Execution - Enforcing a court's judgment with the force of law.
• Executor -a representative appointed in a Will to execute after the testator’s death.
• Exhibit - A document or thing produced for the inspection of the Court, or shown to a witness when giving evidence or referred to in a deposition. Or a document referred to in, but not annexed to; an affidavit.
• Exonerate - To free a person from blame or a duty imposed on him.
• Extinguishment - When a right or obligation ends,
• Extradition - A process by which an offender is transferred from one country to another for trial.
• Extrajudicial - Outside Court, outside the functioning of court system.
• Eyewitness - One who personally observes an event.
• Embargo: The detention of ships in port-a type of reprisal. Ships of a delinquent state may be prevented from leaving the ports of an injured state in order to compel the delinquent state to make reparation for the wrong done.
• Ex gratia: Done as a matter of favour. The ex gratia payment is one not required to be made by a legal duty.
• Ex officio: By virtue of holding an office. The vice President of India is an ex officio chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
• Ex post facto: Describing any legal act, such as a statute, that has retrospective effect. As in the case of Indian Constitution, Article 20 deals with the ex post facto laws whereunder the civil laws can have retrospective application whereas the criminal laws cannot have retrospective application rather they would have prospective application, i.e. application from future date.
• Extradition: The surrender by one state to another of a person accused or convicted of committing an offence in the territorial jurisdiction of the latter, which being competent to try and punish him demands his surrender.

• Esprit de corps - A sprit of unity and solidarity with one's comrades
• Ex aequo et bono - In justice and good faith.
• Ex contractu - Arising out of wrong.
• Ex curio -Out of court.
• Ex delicto - Arising out of wrong.
• Ex done -As a gift
• Ex gratia - Payment made as a favour without any legal obligation.
• Ex post facto - Acting retrospectively.
